Retaining Walls, Stone Work & Concrete: What to Expect

Stone and concrete work adds lasting structure to your yard. But what separates a wall that holds for decades from one that shifts and crumbles within a few years?

The Foundation Under Everything

Whether it's a retaining wall, a concrete walkway, or a patio base, the key factor in longevity is what happens below the surface. Proper excavation, compacted granular base material, and drainage provisions are what separate professional work from quick fixes.

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls hold back soil on sloped properties and create usable flat areas in otherwise awkward yards. The weight and pressure they absorb requires proper footing and batter (slight backward lean) to prevent outward movement over time. Drainage behind the wall is equally critical — without it, water pressure builds up and pushes the wall out regardless of how well it's built.

Concrete Work

We pour concrete for walkways, pads, and curbs throughout the Pickering and Scarborough area. Concrete needs to be properly mixed, placed, and finished before it sets. Control joints — the lines cut or tooled into the surface — are not decorative; they control where the concrete cracks as it expands and contracts with the seasons.

Brick Work

Interlocking brick and paver installations require a well-prepared and compacted base to prevent shifting. We properly bed and edge-restrain every installation so the pattern stays tight and level for years to come.
