Why Leaves on the Lawn Are a Problem
A thin layer of leaves might seem harmless, but once they get wet and pack down, they form a barrier that blocks light and traps moisture. This creates ideal conditions for snow mould and other fungal diseases that damage or kill the grass underneath. By spring, you're left with dead patches that need reseeding.
What a Complete Leaf Cleanup Looks Like
It's not just raking. A thorough job includes blowing leaves out of garden beds, from along fence lines and corners, and away from the base of the house. Gutters should also be cleared of leaf buildup to prevent ice damming in winter.
Disposal Matters
We bag all collected leaves and remove them from the property entirely. Leaving large piles at the curb without bags or past the municipal collection deadline can result in fines in many Ontario municipalities. We handle the full removal so you don't have to think about it.
Timing Your Cleanup
Wait until most of the leaves have fallen — typically late October to mid-November in the Durham Region — rather than doing multiple partial cleanups. One thorough job at the right time is more efficient and more effective.
